IELTS, also known as International English Learning Testing System, is a language proficiency test conducted by IDP.  As it is a prestigious examination, it deals with certain myths and facts. Some of the prominent myths and fact related to Speaking Module of IELTS are discussed as follow:-

Speaking will not be conducted one-to-one. An individual speaking room without any distraction or noise.

2.

Examiner will not help in making you understand the question. Examiner can repeat and rephrase a question if the candidate asks for it.

3.

Examiner might be a native speaker. Examiner will match the pace and capability of the candidate’s level of English.

4.

Examiner will not give you an ample amount of time to speak. Examiner will not time out on the candidate.

5.

British and American accents are preferred. The accent is not an issue with the IELTS exam system. Your native accent is acceptable.

6.

The candidate is not allowed to look at the cue card while speaking. The candidate can look at the cue card for reference while speaking.

7.

Specific body gestures and postures are needed. Neither specific body posture nor gestures are needed. This won’t hamper the scoring criteria. Just be confident.

8.

An invigilator, who is a native of Southern India will ask perplexing questions. The invigilator follows a script for the Speaking module, provided by IDP.

9.

Filling or opting for a far-flung location has a positive impact on scores. Location of test center does not affect your scores, your performance does. You must practice well in accordance to score well.

10.

There is a formal dressing code. There is no formal dress code. Just look decent and you will be good.

It is advised to the aspirants that, they should only believe in their hard work and practice, rather than paying heed to such myths. There is no shortcut to success. Believe in yourself and practice, you will definitely succeed.
