The occupational English test is an English proficiency test for healthcare professionals that is recognised by various number of healthcare bodies. To simplify, it is a test for healthcare professionals, to meet the proficiency of the language that is needed in the environment of these professionals.

LISTENING:

The test is divided in 3 parts:

Part A- The answers in Part A are double-marked by (OET) assessors. A recorded health professional- patient consultations would be played and you will have to complete the health professional’s notes.

Part B- You will listen to a recorder extract and will answer the Multiple choice questions.

Part C- A recorder presentation will be played. You will have to listen to two different extracts and have to answer multiple- choice questions.

READING:

The test is divided in 3 parts:

Part A- You must answer 20 questions in a given period of time. There would be 4 short texts which would be related to healthcare. The questions include matching, sentence completion and short answer questions.

 Part B- There would be 6 provided short texts from healthcare.  For each text, there is one three-option multiple-choice question.

Part C- There would be 2 texts. For each text, you must answer eight four-option multiple choice questions.

WRITING:

In the writing section you will encounter a letter, usually a referral letter. Other letters can be a letter of transfer and a letter of discharge.

SPEAKING:

The test is divided in 3 parts:

Part A- It is a warm- up session in which you get to know about your partner and get comfortable with them.

 Part B- A role play of card with a scenario would be provided. It would be like a real life situation you might encounter in your life.You will have 2-3 minutes to read the card.

Part C- Finally, the roll play would be processed for about 5 minutes.

NOTE: You are allowed to ask questions about the role play like how it works.
