It is the unit of the Pearson PLC group, dedicated to assessing and validating the English Language usage of non-native English speakers. The test includes PTE Academic, PTE General. In 2009, Pearson Language Test launched the Pearson test of English Academics (PTE Academic) which is endorsed by Graduate Management Admission Council (GMAC), the organization responsible for the GMAT (Graduate Management Admission Test). The test score has been aligned to the levels defined in the Common European Framework of reference for language (CEFR). PTE Academics is commending by the Graduate Management Admission Council.

It is a computer-based exam which focuses on real-life English used in academic surroundings. The exam comprises an unmarked voice recording of the candidate which is part of advanced biometric data that should assist institutions in verifying the identity of candidates. The test will be a maximum of three hours long and takers can expect their results to be delivered online within five working days.

Test scores are reported on the Global scale of English, a standardized, numeric scale from 10 to 90 which can measure English language proficiency more precisely.

STRUCTURE:

The Pearson test of English academics comprises of three modules namely:

  1. SPEAKING AND WRITING: Duration of this is about 77-93 minutes.

It includes:

  • Personal Introduction.
  • Repeat sentence
  • Describe image
  • Re-tell lecture
  • Answer short-questions
  • Summarize written text
  • Essay (20 mins)

  1. READING: Duration of this section is 32 to 41 minutes.

This section comprises of:

  • Fill in the blanks
  • Multiple choice questions
  • Re-order paragraphs
  • Fill in the blanks.

  1. LISTENING: Duration of this part is about 45 to 57 minutes.

This section comprises of:

  • Summarize spoken text
  • Multiple choice questions.
  • Fill the blanks
  • Highlight the correct summary
  • Multiple choices
  • Select missing word
  • Highlight incorrect words
  • Write from dictation
