SDS stands for Student Direct Stream. It is a study permit processing program for students who are applying to post-secondary institutions. The main purpose of introducing this category was to speed up the application process of students who meet certain criteria.

The eligibility criteria for the Student Direct Stream (SDS) category is stated below
Eligibility criteria:-
- English proficiency test results: –The student must have completed IELTS within 2 years of applying to the college. The student needs to score 6 bands or above in each module of the exam.
- Proof of GIC-Guaranteed Investment Certificate: –The student must have paid GIC fees of at least CAN $10000 or more In any band registered on the IRCC webpage.
- Proof of payment of the tuition fee for the first year- the student must have a receipt issued by the DLI which is a confirmation of the payment of the first-year fee.
- Letter of acceptance (LOA) from the DLI
- Proof of academic transcripts
- Proof of medical examination from a physician who is panelized by the Canadian government.

Facts about SDS category applications-
- The application proceeds within 20 calendar days if the eligibility criterion is met.
- Only electronic applications are eligible for SDS.

NON-SDS CATEGORY
The General or non-SDS category is similar to SDS. But if you don’t meet the eligibility criteria in English proficiency or academic scores, your file is processed under the non-SDS category.
In the following conditions, your application is processed in the non-SDS category-
- If you score 5.5 in any module in the IELTS exam.
- If your percentage is 50%.
In the non-SDS category, you need to show proof of funds to support your education and expenses in Canada in order to study in Canada.
